Domain Aftermarket
Domain Aftermarket
The Domain Aftermarket is the secondary market for domain names in which an individual or an organisation is interested in acquiring a domain that is already registered and bids or negotiates a price to effect the transfer of registration from the current domain name licence holder.
The Aftermarket domain names are sold by domain auction websites. The domain auction websites allow buyers and sellers to interact anonymously to negotiate and close a sale of a domain name. Some domain auction websites provide additional services, such as escrow services and domain parking.

In June 2008, auDA the Australian Domain Name Administrator relaxed the policy on domain name sales and transfers by releasing its new registrant name change policy. To read more on the Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2011-03)
Prior to the change in Transfers policy, it was not possible for a business to sell any one of its domains or all without selling the entire business.
The change in transfers policy now allows businesses to sell their domain names as long as they meet the requirements set out by auDA in the Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2011-03).
